Mr. Li, a vegetable grower in Qingyuan, Guangdong — 10 acres of greenhouse cooling and income increase project

Boss Li planted 10 acres of leafy vegetable greenhouses in Qingyuan. Before the summer of 2024, he used a two-layer cover system: transparent film plus shade cloth. The workers had to climb up and down twice daily—lifting the shade cloth for light during the day, pulling it back at noon for cooling, and lifting it again in the afternoon. This process was labor-intensive. Moreover, when typhoons hit Guangdong, the shade cloth often blew away, causing newly sprouted choy sum to be completely destroyed by heavy rain. In 4 of 2024, Boss Li replaced the covers on all 10 acres of greenhouse roofs with Haili black-and-white checkered fabric. Once installed, there's no need for constant adjustments—the black-and-white woven threads provide shade, cooling, and rain protection all in one layer. At noon in summer, while the temperature outside reached 38℃, the internal temperature dropped from the original 52℃ (with transparent film) to 44℃, which is ideal for leafy vegetables. Most importantly, typhoon season is now stress-free: the waterproof membrane blocks all rain, unlike the sieve-like effect of shade cloth. By year-end, sales per acre of choy sum increased by more than 3000 compared to the previous year, generating an additional profit of 3 million yuan across 10 acres. Labor costs were also cut, reducing the workforce from two to one. This year, Boss Li has already covered another 5 acres and even referred a neighboring flower grower to purchase the same material.
